Holy Land:
The Next (Last?) Arab-Israeli War. Pledge
This a two-map game (both 34x22 inches with large-hexes) that will examine the strategic and operational possibilities inherent in another war fought in the near future between Israel and the Arab
"confrontation states." The joined maps will cover from Beirut, Damascus and Amman south and west through the Sinai Desert to Cairo at eight miles per hex. The system used is a derivation of the one from "Back to Iraq, 3rd
Edition," making for easy solitaire play, with the work done by the same Ty Bomba and Joseph Miranda design and development team.
The Israeli player must attempt to carry out regime-change campaigns against all the opposing states, while also pacifying the Palestinians, all within a time frame limited to about a month (12 to 15 game
turns). The Moslems will likely be defeated militarily, but the question is can they first stage sufficiently large enough battles to "win" the war for their peoples' hearts and minds with "Media Perception Points"?
That is, can they do well enough on the battlefield, causing Israeli casualties, etc., so their people will be willing to give it yet another try at some future time?
The main force driving the new war will be the presumed conversion of Egypt, via internal revolution, into a new Islamic fundamentalist state, one that immediately declares "Holy War" against the
Jewish state. Meanwhile the Iraqis will be launching SCUDS into Israel from off-map. "Volunteer" units from other off-map Moslem states, such as Libya, Iran, Algeria, etc., as well as Al-Qaeda and other terrorist brigades, will
also be included in that side's order of battle. Weapons of mass destruction will be an option for both sides. US intervention, in the air and on the ground, will also be possible on the Israeli side.
The Israeli order of battle will be represented at the division and brigade level, along with their extensive defense works and fortified settlements. Each hex of Palestine and the Gaza Strip will begin the
game with 0-?-0 unit in it, which will have new defense factor rolled for them each time the Israelis attack.
A full panoply of special operations, strategic, cyber and informational warfare "Advanced Game" rules will be provided by Joseph Miranda, who has long been recognized as a master at simulating
those aspects of modern conflict.
The ubiquitous and excellent Israeli air force will work to slow Moslem movement, hindering those units' ability to cross rivers and canals, while also working as a force multiplier for their army in combat.
Israeli airmobile and airborne troops will also play key "fire brigade" roles as the war fronts ignite all around that nation. The Israelis are clearly the superior military power, but not so much so they can take the offensive
all over at the same time. Some areas will simply have to be defended while an offensive in another zone is pushed to completion.
This game is to be boxed and will be playable in one sitting. Est. Retail: $44 (Est. Pledge: $33
